Interesting Questions

He are some just questions I have been thinking about...
-Doesn't chivalry degrade women?
-Why can't gay people marry who they like? Will it hurt you if they do?
-What makes cannibalism so bad? If the person is dead and he allows it, why not?
-Isn't circumcision an act of violence against boys?
-Why is it a job requirement for a person to go to school?
-Why is 18 the magic number for you do be able to drive, drink or vote?

Hopefully, I get to answer myself.

Exemplar Essay Example for English

Exemplar: A Good Narrative Essay

On an otherwise calm and uneventful day, I heard what sounded like an enormous train, derailed from the tracks and coming straight at me. As I put the mattress over my head, I suddenly remembered that my roommates had not made it home yet. I had to make a decision quickly.… Do I stay under the mattress and be a coward, or do I go and try to find my friends? After much reflection, I realized that it is important to try to help your friends even if it puts you in harm’s way.

I learned this life lesson one spring day, when a twister tore through downtown Ft. Worth. I could have stayed in my closet with my cat, a mattress over my head and a radio, but in hindsight, I am glad I braved the storm to look for my friends.

En route, I watched the bent anarchy of rebar, walls, glass and unidentifiable structures, gnarled and toothy, as they paraded in a watercolor swirl in the aluminum windows. Driving the route from our house to downtown that they would have traveled, the song “A Bridge Over Troubled Water” came on, which was fitting to the situation. By the time I approached downtown, the wind had ceased and an eerie stillness settled in. Puddles stretched out in front of me, threatening to engulf the whole town. What I noticed first about the water everywhere was the absence of artificial light reflecting back at me. Night had fallen and because of the tornado all of the streetlights were out. I thought to myself…

“This is what night is supposed to look like.”

I noticed that even the marquis lights were out. All of the buildings were dark and anonymous; none bared the logo of a corporate tenant. I witnessed natural night, just as people had before humans preferred artificial sunlight. For, as far as the eye could see there was not a working conduit for electricity to pass through, nor could I hear that distinct buzzing in the air. There was only me, Simon and Garfunkel on the radio, and the glimpses of scared people hiding under disjointed facades of the less-affected buildings. Stepping out the car, I saw the moon finding its face in the stillness of the oblong puddles below me. The power lines looked like the teeth of a boxer after a brutal fight; they were going every which way in a haphazard arrangement.

I found my friend’s car, in the aftermath, trapped in debris. I was terrified! What happened to them, I wondered. I looked across the street and among a crowd of astonished and frightened expressions; I finally located my friends. I saw from the ghost-white expression on my friend Leah’s face that she was in shock. My other roommate (and friend) was talking amongst others who were injured. He was helping the bartender pour shots of whiskey to calm the people down, since the refuge they had found happened to be a bar. Leah had a piece of glass embedded in her arm and bloody knees; my other roommate had deep cuts on the palms of his hands. Leah told me that she was caught running from her car to this building to seek shelter, and when she opened the heavy-metal door to the bar, the tornado picked her up like rag doll and slammed her knees into the asphalt. They did not need an ambulance, so I ushered them to my car. I was met with reluctance when I insisted that they go to the emergency room. Arguing the whole way, I drove them to the emergency room. They were admitted to triage, and the doctor said that Leah’s gash in her arm needed stitches, and she needed a tetanus shot. They disinfected their wounds, and a few hours later, we went home.

Even though my friends might have fared okay without me, I am glad that I could help them out. Since, Leah was in shock, she was not aware of the seriousness of her injuries and probably would not have sought medical attention without my coaxing. If I am faced with a life-threatening situation again, I will come to the aid of my friends. Hopefully, this sentiment will not be challenged any time soon.

Bad Essay Sample for English

Playing video games has been my hobby since I was 10 years old. I have been playing games like Gran Turismo, a racing game, Call of Duty series, a shooting game, Fight Night series, a boxing game, NBA 2K series and NBA Live series, which are both basketball games that still bore me because of the limitations in the game. Back in 2006, my gaming rituals changed from a 5-6 hours a day of gaming to about 10 or more hours of gaming, all because I bought the game Grand Theft Auto San Andreas for Windows PC. The things you can do in the game blew my mind back when I was just starting to play video games The Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is an open world genre game, meaning you can do almost anything you want in the game, and i mean anything. The game is very unique because of all the things you can do in the game, from driving cars to flying planes and helicopters, shooting at gangsters in the streets, avoiding arrest from the cops, gambling at a casino and many more. Going into the game, the gamer plays as CJ, the protagonist of GTA San Andreas, an African-American man who returns to the city of Los Santos because of the death of his mother, while he has to face his dark past with the gangsters of Los Santos and other stories leading the way. GTA San Andreas isn’t just one city, it has three cities, Las Venturas (Las Vegas), San Fiero ( San Fransisco) and Los Santos ( Los Angeles)  and other towns around them, making the game more interesting to roam around freely. One of my favorite things to do in the game is to drive around the cities and towns while listening to the radio, especially to the songs from the 80’s, it always makes me calm like I was really there.Through the years of playing GTA San Andreas, I learned a lot of good things out of bad, though I do bad things in the game, it made me more aware on the things I can't do outside the game because it is illegal.

The Grand Theft Auto San Andreas changed my life, it made my daily gaming habits more exciting, made me think on what to do next in the game and it is a good way to kill time. GTA San Andreas is one of the best game I've ever played, even if I already played GTA IV, a later version of the GTA series. Indeed, GTA San Andreas is the best video game I have played.

Isang Paalala

I got this photo from, here.

Mahal kong Pilipinas
Wari nawala ang 'yong landas
Baon sa kahirapan,
Korupsyon at anu pa man

Ang kalayaan ay binali wala
Ng muling pagboto ng mga walang nagawa
At ngayong sila'y naupo muli
Tayo'y muling magrereklamo ng paulit ulit

At lahat ng problema sila'y dahilan
At hindi natatapos ito, kaibigan
Tuwing halalan, ito ang resulta
Panahon pa nina Lolo at Lola

Ako'y nagmamalimos sa inyo,
Na sa susunod, tayo ay magbago
Hindi na ang trapo'y mailagay
Kundi ang taong may pusong na inaalay

Salamat po,
Na binasa ninyo ang tulang ito
At  sana naman tayo'y bumago
At tama na ang ating ibinoboto

My View: Taiwan and the Philippines

i got this photo from here

I'll just want to express my stand on the issue between Taiwan and the Philippines.

First of all, I don't agree with the bullying that the Taiwanese are doing to the Filipinos in their country. First of all, those Filipino workers did not even do anything. I hope they stop that. We don't bully the Taiwanese or any other race in our country.

Second, I believe that the Philippine Coast Guard should be given a fair trial/ investigation. And there shouldn't be any bias. They say that the Taiwanese fishermen was attempting to ram their boat and all they did was to defend themselves, in our waters.

Third, I don't agree with the Taiwanese demanding for compensation. First of all, I believe that our government should investigate the incident first. It is possible that, like what the PCG claims, they were merely defending themselves.

That's my opinion. I welcome debate and disagreement. :) Hopefully, I did not offend anyone.

Trying Typography

Ever since I was young, I was already interested in typography and computer art. However, because I kinda suck at drawing, I preferred playing around with words. I have always wanted to make my own typography using a computer. So as soon as I learned how to use the programs needed in making it, I couldn't stop myself from trying out different fonts and typefaces. For those who don't know what typography is, you can read Wikipedia Article about typography. However, if you don't trust Wikipedia or you are too lazy to read it, typography is basically playing around with words.

So, I have been playing around with the names of my friends using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop and these are the results. This post is dedicated to the friends I made in the Marine Camp, which I talked about in my first blog post. So here it is:
for my friend, Kayla

 for my friend, Simone
 for my friend, Arielle
and for my friend, Nicole

and for all of them,

---

and of course, I also made for myself

So that's it! :D I hoped you enjoyed this really short blog post. Hopefully, I can get better at this.

Obsession: Documentaries!

Who's the richest man in the history of the world? John D. Rockefeller, of course. How did I know that? It is  because I watched The Innovators: The Men Who Built America. I am a huge fan of watching documentaries. I love documentaries because they teach me  about a lot of things. I actually learn more in watching a 1 hour documentary as compared to sitting in class and listening to the lecture of my Social Science teacher. Sometimes, I even get to correct my teacher about certain facts about our past. Besides the news, I only use the TV to watch documentaries.

Why do I like documentaries? The main reason why I do like documentaries is that I get to learn a ton load of stuff without getting bored because the producers of the documentaries are very creative presenting the information that they want to show you. For me, the feeling of learning something new is just awesome. Second, you can be as lazy as you want when you watch documentaries. You don't have to watch documentaries sitting up, you can lie down or even be eating. Third, I can choose what I like to watch, if the documentary does not catch my interest, I can opt to not watch it, unlike school, wherein you are forced to listen to the teacher if you want to be able to pass the test.

Which documentaries do I like? I generally like all documentaries, except the ones that talk about animals because those kinda bore me to death. But I prefer watching documentaries about the past. History is what interests me the most. I am a history geek.  One of my favorite series is Mankind: The Story of All of Us, it is a 6 episode series about the history of the world. It goes all the way back when humans hunted for their food. Another favorite was mentioned a while ago, The Innovators: The Men Who Built America. It's about businessmen who built America to what it is today. It features the titans, Vanderbilt, Rockefeller, Carnegie, Morgan and Ford, and how they built their empires from the ground up. (I will make a review of this in the future.)

Obsession Grade: 9.5!!!

I love documentaries and I love learning new things. I honestly want to meet people who enjoy documentaries like I do, since my friends aren't the biggest fans of it. I hope you guys try watching History, Nat Geo or Discovery. I can assure you that you will learn a lot from it and it will be fun. Hope you guys get hooked!

A Helpful Tool For The Elections

If you still aren't decided about who to vote for in the incoming senatorial elections, or you want to know more about the candidates who will be in charge for the next 6 years, I found a very helpful tool that may aid you in making that hard decision of choosing the right candidates to vote for. This site, will spare you from all the campaign propoganda candidates are spreading about themselves and will give only facts about each of the candidates, FREE OF CHARGE.  No bias included. They even have a portion in their site named Fact Check, where they verify the facts that candidates claim. This site is made and administered by the faculty and students of UP. I will share with you the link to their site so that you may access it. Hopefully, this will help you guys make an informed choice and vote wisely which I explained in my previous blog post entitled Vote Wisely.

Here is the link to the website: halalan.up.edu.ph

I really hope that everyone will be responsible citizens and will exercise their right to vote on May 13, 2013.

Vote Wisely

As the Philippine National Election draws near, (7 more days to be exact or in case you don't know yet) it is expected that aspiring politicians bombard all forms of media, from print to radio to television to the internet, with their campaign ads and propaganda, which sometimes, tend to be eye sores.. Some souls even cross the border turning their backs from fair play, just to make sure that they end up victorious.

Every politician has their own fighting style. Some claim to fight for the poor. Some fight for education. Some fight for the youth. Some fight against corruption. Some fight for women's rights. And some fight for other reasons. And each of them try to persuade you using their flowery speeches and high promises. Some of them even use a very crafty tactic, which I like to call the "LIBRE" tactic. It is when candidates promise the masses that pretty much everything they need would be free-of-charge. Some of these may include, free schooling, free health care, free rice or even free dental check up.

With all these promises of a better country, after the elections, do these politicians walk their talk? or do they just hide in their offices pocketing the hard-earned wealth of the Filipinos. Libre ba talaga ang edukasyon? May libre bang dental check-up? o nadaan muli sa walang kwentang pangako ang Filipino? People are falling deeper and deeper in to the abyss of poverty. What about the leaders who promised to help them? It seems like they just moved into Forbes or they just came back from their trip to Europe. Where are the so-called Protectors of the Poor? Saan ang pag-asa na pinangako ng mga politiko? This seems to be the cycle that us, Filipinos always follow. And I thought, as a kid, politicians are the people that are tasked to serve. They are the ones which Filipinos go to when they need help. I thought the government's role was to to assure the people that everything will be okay. I was wrong. The current role of the government officials is to get rich, and ones they do, they get even richer.

As a kid who can not vote, may I please ask you all one thing? PLEASE STUDY YOUR CANDIDATES. Read about them. Check out their platforms and political philosophies. Find out why they want to run. Is it because they really want to? or is it because they were told to run? Or is it because they want to get rich?  Here is a list of reasons that are NOT valid.

1. "Because my friends/ family is voting for him" It's your vote, not theirs.
2. "Because he belongs to this party." It doesn't mean he is the best already.
3. "Because he is the top candidate in surveys." Again, It's your vote, not theirs.
4. "Because he is my relative." So what if he is, doesn't mean he will serve you properly.
5. "Because he was my favorite actor or he looks handsome." It doesn't mean he is good enough to hold the position.
6. "Because their family has been seated for the longest time." That doesn't count for anything.

So please, do your part in this election. Don't entrust your future and your children's future in incompetent politicians. If we elect leaders with no interest in serving us, who do you think will be affected? Wouldn't it be us? So please, VOTE WISELY.

Marine Camp 2013

Hi Guys!

I am glad to tell you that I made really awesome friends in a Marine Camp I joined last week in Negros Occidental, and I will describe each and everyone of them to you and I will justify why they are "OSUM" (Nicole) (see they even have their own language!!!) But before that, let me tell you about the best 5 days of my summer.

For 5 days, we were incarcerated in a deserted island named Danjugan, with only luke war water and an addicting substance named Milo to drink. However, sometimes, when the Manang Goddesses favor us, we get  cold pineapple juice. Of course, desperate souls could opt to buy the overpriced cold Mountain Dew that comes from the Boat God named Tikyo (if that is his name). Besides that, we were only given a bucket of fresh water each day to wash our filthy selfs. And at night, we were trapped in nets allowing us to be attacked by various insects, which we are forbidden to kill. Seems like fun, doesn't it? JUST KIDDING! but, it really happened. On a brighter side of things, I was able to make new friends, learn a lot about the environment and how to tkae care of it. And more importantly, I was able to HAVE FUN.

Anyways, as promised, I will introduce my OSUM (Nicole) Friends. Let's start with the Little Mermaid.

Arielle
Age: 14
Ms. Cool. She is a diver, swimmer, artist, graphic artist, photographer, and a home school student. She is very talented and fun to be with. She is very strong and will do what she is decided on doing. Besides that, she is also very ADOWABLE!

Kayla
Age: 12
Ms. Bait (Kind). She is very kind and thoughtful. She is also into making friendship bracelets for herself. She has a collection that exceeds 20 bracelets. She is also the sister of Arielle. And their relationship is a must see, it's really KYOT! #SisterlyLove

Nicole
Age: 14
Ms. Guitar. She is a very talented guitarist/ musician. She was even awarded for it (guitar hero award in camp). She studies in Philipine Science High School (smart kid school). She has a very friendly aura that got a shy hermit like me to talk a lot. Besides that, she is very PWETTI. Too bad guys, she's taken.

Simone
Age: 11
Ms. Young. She's the youngest camper in the entire camp, Despite being young, she still is very talkative and she is a very articulated speaker (is it said that way?). She's very fun to talk to. She is, like Arielle, a very strong girl. By the way, she's the sister of a teen superstar

There you have it. These are my new friends I made in Danjuagan (DAN-HU-GAN). Forgive my bad grammar and misspelled words, Grammar Nazis. I am too lazy to proofread.
